For deep scratches or chipped paint all the way down to the metal, you can use fine grain silicon sand to texture the surface of cast aluminum furniture after applying the first coat of paint. Apply the silicon sand to the wet paint. After the first coat has dried, recoat the surface again. You need to remember that use light coat of paint is better than one heavy coat.
